Katie Alfred has been one of our faithful volunteers, working at STCH for over seven years. Katie does almost everything that can be done at the Community House. She handles the record keeping on the computer, tallies the monthly totals and keeps everything organized. She and her husband, Bob, made runs several times a month to the Community Food Bank to pick up food before Melvin Hay joined our staff. You might see Katie yearly at the Southern Hills United Methodist Church’s Pumpkin Patch which she has managed for years.
Catherine Ramsay has recently joined the South Tulsa Community House staff as front office clerk. She retired from the Controller’s Department at American Airlines after 28 years of service. She knew she wanted to help those less fortunate than herself in retirement, and she jumped at the opportunity to work part time at the Community House. She now greets our neighbors and assists with setting up services for them.
Melvin Hay, Jr. was placed with the Community House through the AARP Foundation’s Seniors to Work Program in December, 2014 where he assisted with distributing groceries to our neighbors as well as kept the food pantry storage rooms stocked and clean. Upon gaining a cargo van, we were able to hire Melvin to pick up donations and purchases for the food pantry as well as assist in the inventory control of the pantry.
Board President Dr. Lanny Endicott is a Professor of Social Work at Oral Roberts University. He came to ORU as the first full-time faculty member in the social work program in 1974. Dr. Endicott has been involved with the South Tulsa Community House since 1996 serving as president of the board of directors for 10 years. Under his visionary leadership, STCH has grown from a small storefront location into a large permanent facility where numerous services are provided. It was Lanny’s vision that STCH would become a “One Stop” service provider for this transportation challenged neighborhood.
